The 2014 Kyoto Prize Presentation Ceremony, Commemorative Lectures and Workshops

The 2014 Kyoto Prize Presentation Ceremony was held at the Kyoto International Conference Center on November 10th 2014 and was graced by the presence of Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado. The event which continued with Commemorative Lectures and Workshops through to November 12th was attended by over 1600 delegates and dignitaries from across the world. The Laureates for 2014 were presented to Dr. Robert Samuel Langer (-Biomedical Engineer-) in the category of Advanced Technology, Dr Edward Witten (-Theoretical Physicist-) in Basic Sciences, and Ms. Fukumi Shimura (-Dyeing and Weaving Artist-) in Arts and Philosophy. Each Laureate was each was presented with a diploma, a Kyoto Prize Medal (20K) and prize money of 50 million yen. Celebratory performances by the Kyoto Symphony Orchestra, Noh actors, and a children’s choir dressed in traditional kimonos, added to the festive occasion. The Kyoto Prize is awarded to annually to individuals who have significantly contributed to the scientific, and spiritual betterment of mankind.
