Co-generation System

A natural gas co-generation system is used to generate electricity and heat, meeting power and air-conditioning needs.
Two 600kw gas engines for continuous power generation are located beneath the Conference Hall. They operate in conjunction with the commercial power grid, supplying power throughout the ICC Kyoto complex.
Hot water produced when passing cooling water through the gas engines and steam from exhaust gases are used to run air-conditioning systems and for supplying hot water.
As this system burns natural gas, it emits mainly carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide, almost no sulfur oxide and very little of anything else.In addition, the burden on the natural environment is lightened even further by the adoption of a three-way catalyst method to reduce nitrogen oxide output.
